Just like how states should balance their budgets and provide public education jails should be required to have a system in place to help convicts join society and not return to jail. How do we expect criminals to succeed if we don’t help them learn about other ways to make a living other than selling drugs, stealing cars, and robbing stores?
I firmly believe it should be mandatory for jails to provide some form of job training and placement program. Furthermore, these jails should be evaluated on how many of their inmates find and keep jobs after leaving. I see it this way, increase the punishments for the real criminals, the schmucks getting off, and reduce the penalties for the victims trying to find a way to make a living. When you think of prostitutes do you think of hard-edged criminals who break the law to gain a buck or desperate individuals who are trying to make a living the only way they know how.
Illegalize the stench of for-profit jails. Why would we have money starved corporate tycoons meddling in the pits of the lost and reviled? Now it might seem like a beautiful little picnic. They deserve each other we one could say. Frankly, that is bullocks. Corporate frenzied avarice is not going to help our lost and corrupt. It will and is like bringing dynamite to a birthday party. Everyone is having fun till someone gets blown up. Now, let’s just take a second look how stupid of an idea this is for the American people.
