I see it this way, increase the punishments for the real criminals, the schmucks getting off, and reduce the penalties for the victims trying to find a way to make a living. When you think of prostitutes do you think of hard-edged criminals who break the law to gain a buck or desperate individuals who are trying to make a living the only way they know how.

When you don’t have or don’t know you have a sellable skill (a legal one that is) many people end up selling their bodies on street corners in order to pay the rent. Prostitution is illegal (except in Nevada) and we should encourage prostitutes to not commit crimes. Why not help these people instead of throwing them behind bars. The hypocrisy comes in that prostitutes are more severely punished then the schmucks who take advantage of them.
